Indications/Uses
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated w/ benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not open/chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, including drug-induced angioedema.
Special Precautions
Orthostatic hypotension can occur during treatment. Perform digital rectal exam & determine prostate specific antigen (PSA) before treatment & at regular intervals thereafter. Risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) during cataract & glaucoma surgery. Not recommended to initiate therapy in patients w/ scheduled cataract or glaucoma surgery. Should not be given in combination w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors in patients w/ poor metaboliser CYP2D6 phenotype. Use w/ caution in combination w/ strong & moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors. Patients w/ history of orthostatic hypotension; sulfonamide allergy. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Patients w/ severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min); severe hepatic dysfunction. For male patients only. No relevant indication in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness; ejaculation disorders including retrograde ejaculation & ejaculation failure.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma levels w/ cimetidine. Decreased plasma levels w/ furosemide. Increased elimination rate w/ diclofenac & warfarin. Increased AUC & Cmax w/ ketoconazole (strong CYP3A4 inhibitor); paroxetine (strong CYP2D6 inhibitor). Hypotensive effects w/ other α1-adrenoceptor antagonists.
